Our work here is non-partisan and not about religion. Our work is about the spirit of humanity when it is at its best.
When it is not distorted, the human spirit empowers us, connects us, and stokes the passions of our hearts. Our spirit speaks to us and through us, encouraging community engagement from a place of kindness, compassion, and love. Our political discourse desperately needs the guidance, strength, and clarity of our soul’s force for goodness in the world.

Soul Force Politics is the art of using inner wisdom to guide social action, which helps restore faith in the heart of humanity, one connection at a time.
I haven’t always had faith in humanity.
We have all seen the ugly and messy side of humans. But we have also witnessed our enduring spirit, our generosity, our courage, and our deep love of each other in striking moments of national or even global unity during times of crisis and great need.
How do we make this more of the rule rather than the exception? And how do we more consistently summon our best selves even when faced with challenging dialogue, circumstances, and personalities who seem to bring out our worst behaviors?

Sacred Tension: The practice of holding paradox and transcending limiting beliefs
Sacred Tension is an invitation to grow in the spaces where life feels most complex. Rather than forcing resolution, this course teaches us to be present with paradox - those sacred spaces where truth lives in the “both/and.” Each week we explore a different tension point - like Power & Surrender or Conviction & Openness - while uncovering the limiting beliefs that keep us stuck in fear, control, or perfectionism. This course is for those who want to become more effective and heart-centered leaders by first transforming their inner terrain. With practices in embodied resilience, compassionate self-inquiry, and deep listening, we learn to navigate uncertainty with grace - and find freedom in the very places we once resisted. Mahatma Gandhi
He is known the world over for his successful use of non-violent resistance to create social change in India. He coined the term, “Satyagraha,” to describe his approach. Satya is a Sanskrit word that means “truth,” while Graha means “insistence.”
Satyagraha’s translation is “Soul Force.
Satyagraha’s translation is “Soul Force.

Satyagraha is the weapon of the strong. It admits of no violence under any circumstances whatsoever, and it ever insists upon truth. Its foundation is empathy and compassion. The Satyagrahi’s object is to convert, not coerce the wrongdoer.

Martin Luther King, Jr.
King adopted Gandhi's organizing principles to govern the civil rights movement he led in the 1960’s in the United States. He also spoke of Soul Force. In his famous, “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963, he said:

We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to denigrate into physical violence. Again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with Soul Force.

Harriet Tubman
On her Underground Railroad missions, abolitionist and freedom fighter Harriet Tubman relied on her faith, her intellect, and her deep intuitive skills to guide her through the most perilous situations.
Tubman’s faith anchored her. Alone in the woods at night, Tubman was comforted by what she called a ‘Mysterious Unseen Presence.’ She used her intuition and knowledge of the human and physical landscape to protect herself. Facing danger and uncertainty, she believed [that unseen mysterious force] would show her the way.” - Museum installation at Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park in Church Creek, Maryland

Malala Yousafzai
Malala is a 2014 Nobel Prize laureate and a passionate advocate for girls' education and global equality. After surviving a violent attack for her advocacy, Malala has dedicated her life to spreading more light in the world by empowering young girls to dream, learn, and lead.

Nelson Mandela
In South Africa, after twenty-eight years of imprisonment for leading the non-violent resistance against his country’s oppression of the black majority, Nelson Mandela was awarded the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize for his work to bring about the peaceful termination of the apartheid regime and for laying the foundations for a new, democratic South Africa. Carrying no bitterness from his harsh experience, Mandela became known throughout the world as a moral authority on what could be described as the strength of Soul Force:

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

Amanda Gorman
Amanda is the youngest poet to read at the inauguration of a President of the United States. These are excerpts from her poem, "The Hill We Climb," which speaks to the themes of hope, resilience, and collective action to overcome division and unify our nation.

So we lift our gazes not to what stands between us, but what stands before us. We close the divide because we know to put our future first, we must first put our differences aside.
Let the globe, if nothing else, say this is true: that even as we grieved, we grew, even as we hurt, we hoped, that even as we tired, we tried, that we'll forever be tied together victorious, not because we will never again know defeat but because we will never again sow division.

Teddy Roosevelt
The essence of Soul Force Politics was also practiced regularly by another great Republican President, Teddy Roosevelt.

It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.
