Heather Mizeur is a former Maryland State Legislator, Congressional senior staffer, and nationally recognized advocate for healing political division and restoring civic grace. With more than two decades of experience in public service, she has been at the forefront of shaping health, environmental, civil rights, and economic justice policy - both in the halls of Congress and on the ground in her community.
She began her public service career as a legislative and policy analyst for three Members of the U.S. House of Representatives before joining U.S. Senator John Kerry (D-MA) as his Domestic Policy Director. In that role, she led his health and human services portfolio before, during, and after his 2004 presidential campaign, also serving as the Kerry-Edwards’ Maryland campaign manager.
Frustrated by the gridlock in Washington, Heather turned her focus to state government, where she believed real change could happen. In 2006, she was elected to the Maryland General Assembly, where she served for eight years and built a strong reputation as a bipartisan consensus-builder. Her legislative victories include expanding health coverage, leading the environmental charge to ban fracking in Maryland, advancing marriage equality, and championing fair wages, small businesses, and tax reform.
Heather Mizeur does not shy away from tough challenges. Twice, she felt called to bring her unique voice into campaigns widely seen as unwinnable – but critical for shaping shifts in consciousness. In her 2014 bid for Governor of Maryland and her 2022 run for Congress, Heather led inspiring, people-powered efforts that transcended partisanship and invited voters into a politics of integrity, compassion, and common ground solutions.
In 2017, she founded WeAreOne Alliance, a nonprofit organization with a mission to restore faith in the heart of humanity, one connection at a time. Through its four core programs, the organization brings heart-centered leadership and soulful civic action to people and communities across the country and around the globe:
- Soul Force Politics teaches the art of using inner wisdom to guide social action
- Inward Expeditions leads international retreats designed to ignite soul fire and deepen personal transformation.
- Operation Thriving Acres offers farm therapy and therapeutic horticulture activities for Veterans and First Responders with service-connected post-traumatic stress. This is an alliance with Apotheosis Farm
- The Sacred Dreams Project is a biannual humanitarian mission in rural Zimbabwe that drills wells, plants gardens, and cultivates sustainable food crops to fund gender equity in education in alliance with Tererai Trent International.
