Sacred Dreams Project

Denied an education as a young girl, Dr. Tererai Trent was a child bride who ended generational poverty through dreams of educating herself in the U.S. and then returning to her rural African village to build schools for children.

When she declared her bold dreams for an education, Tererai’s mother encouraged her to write them down on paper and bury them in a tin can to be nurtured by Mother Earth. In her native language, the word for bury is the same as the word for plant.
But her mother wanted her to grow something else – a dream not only for herself, but also for her community. She encouraged Tererai to consider why she had this dream of an education and advised her that these dreams would have more potency if they were meant to serve a purpose larger than herself.

Named Oprah Winfrey’s all-time favorite guest, the talk show host donated $1.5 million towards Tererai’s dream of building a modern school in her village of Matau.
But why should there be only one school in the area with access to water, food, and a safe, clean building so children can get a good education?

Our sacred dream is to help more schools in Matau have access to clean water and fresh food. You are invited to experience a life-changing cultural exchange offered through our humanitarian mission to Zimbabwe.

Delegation to Africa

The Sacred Dreams Project is a partnership between the WeAreOne Alliance and Tererai Trent International. Our shared mission is to secure access to clean drinking water for African school children in Zimbabwe’s rural village of Matau.

For each new well that is dug, an accompanying garden is planted to provide the children with their main meal each day. Additional produce is contracted to local markets and the revenue is used to support teachers and fund other school infrastructure needs.

A second well is dug for community access at each school location, providing clean drinking water for the surrounding community.

Ubuntu is knowing that we can be human only together.

Ubuntu = WeAreOne

The African philosophy of Ubuntu is the belief that “I am because you are” – the spirit of human interconnectedness; a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity.

The spirit of Ubuntu is the beating heart of the WeAreOne Alliance and the seed that gave birth to our international humanitarian mission, the Sacred Dreams Project.

In signing my copy of her book, “The Awakened Woman: A Guide for Remembering & Igniting Your Sacred Dreams,” Dr. Trent inscribed this message: “My Sahwira, Heather: You are the epitome of Ubuntu. May you remain the fertile ground for our dreams. May all your dreams be fulfilled. I love you, my friend! – Tererai.”

Oprah Winfrey wrote the forward
of Dr. Trent's book:

“One of the most inspirational people I’ve met in all my years of interviewing, Tererai has a personal story that will bring you to tears – and make you cheer. Her perseverance, commitment, and hopefulness are a salve to even the weariest of spirits.”

By joining our Delegation to Africa under the Sacred Dreams Project, you get the unique opportunity to learn directly from Dr. Trent, truly an international superstar.

Listen to Our Sacred Dreams Conversation

I was fortunate to host an incredibly inspiring conversation in March 2024 with Dr. Trent in Chestertown, Maryland at the campus of Washington College as a prelude to a community fundraiser we held for what would become the Sacred Dreams Project.

Gain free access to the Honorable Heather Mizeur and Dr. Tererai Trent’s community conversation and teachings on how to remember, ignite, and nurture your sacred dreams.

We raised $67,000 that night to fund the drilling of water wells and the construction of irrigated gardens at Zvimhonja Secondary and Primary Schools in Matau.

Whose Sacred Dream   is This?

Dr. Trent’s sacred dream was to earn an education in the United States and then come home to Matau to build a world-class school that supports education for both boys and girls.

One of Heather Mizeur’s sacred dreams is to provide access to clean drinking water to people throughout the world.

The combined efforts of the nonprofits led by these two women are not only feeding their own dreams, but are also meant to inspire, remind, ignite, and nurture the sacred dreams of those traveling in the group’s delegation. We explore this in our leadership teachings with you while we are together in Africa.

Africa Will Transform You

We took a delegation of supporters to Africa in June 2024 to be a part of this important work with TTI. And from this experience, our new Sacred Dreams Project was launched.

There are many more schools in the region without access to sustainable food or water. Let’s change that!

And while we go to Africa with great intentions of making positive change for the people, it is we who are forever transformed by going.
